Calming Arthritic Pain With Diet

Must Knows To Take Control Of Arthritic Pain And Inflammation In The Body

Once over 50 years old, research studies confirm that when inflammation is triggered, it’s much less likely to go back down. Some of this is due to daily exercise habits that also feed the inflammation. Managing joint pain with only pain meds creates deeper issues with inflammation in the long run.

The longer the real cause of the problem is ignored the longer the pain will continue and the less effective traditional pain meds will be in managing the pain.

Let’s make this as simple as possible. Here is a short general list of the foods to avoid to calm the inflammation in the body and calm the pain in the joints.

  • Refined Carbohydrates

Any member of the refined carbohydrate family like white bread, muffins, pasta, bagels, etc. drives up inflammation because the body processes them into sugar.

  • Processed Foods And French Fries

Keep trans fatty acid consumption as low as possible. French fries, soybean, corn, peanut, and sunflower oils are examples of vegetable oils that are rich in omega-6 fats. Too much Omega-6 causes inflammation.

  • High Temperature Foods: Blackened And Barbecued Foods

Foods cooked at high temperatures – including char-broiled, blackened, barbecued, fried, etc. often contain harmful by-products caused by the cooking process called Advanced Glycation End (AGEs). Anytime foods that are broiled, fried, grilled, etc. AGEs are formed. AGEs are highly inflammatory and can damage joints and bones, making arthritis worse.

Stewing, boiling, braising, crock-potting or steaming will help minimize the amount of (AGEs) formed in your food. As well as cooking at medium heat or lower.

  • Nightshade Vegetables

Nightshade vegetables include potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and tobacco, all of these products contain trace amounts of alkaloids that can be harmful in heavy concentrations. Eating nightshade plants actually worsens arthritis because of the way they affect calcium metabolism in the body. These alkaloids may lead to calcium deposits in tendons, ligaments, cartilage and joints contributing to inflammation and joint pain.

This effect can be worse for people who already have arthritis. Substances in nightshade plants can cause the worsening of an already existing inflammation.

  • Sugar

The #1 Worst Food to eat if you suffer from arthritis is sugar.

Cookies, candy, ice cream, brownies, doughnuts, pie, cake, etc. All of these are loaded with sugar, which drives up your blood sugar and insulin, along with levels of inflammatory messengers called cytokines.
